Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of DeLonghi BAR140 Espresso Maker with Exclusive Pod SystemCustomer Review: Excellent quality, and actually affordable! Summary: 5 Stars
I settled upon this machine after reading glowing reviews and amazon.com ... That, and it was the only machine with 15 bars of pump pressure I could find for under [$$$].This machine was not in stock -- ANYWHERE. Finally, I found it by chance ... for [$$$]. This is a great machine for quality espresso, especially for people who have no idea how to make espresso. You can't [mess up] too badly here. What I Like About the BAR140: * Rich flavor, and delightful consistent crema every single time! * A little nozzle attaches to the tip of the filter holder, so that if you'd like, you can let the espresso fill two cups at once * Easy to fill with water -- just pull out the rectangular-shaped pitcher, fill and replace * Easy to clean! Easy easy easy! Just about every little piece (including the milk frother nozzle) comes off for washing * The joy of pods! If you're venturing into the world of making your own espresso, you can buy these things that are like, teabags, except, they're filled with coffee. Just pop one of those onto the filter, attach to the machine and you have quick and easy espresso! No need to press down any coffee grinds ("tamping"). * Only three buttons -- you can't get too confused ... What I Would Change About This Machine: * You have to leave the machine on for a half hour before making espresso ... are all machines that slow!?!? It's bothersome when you wake up late for work and need your espresso within 15 minutes * The tamper is attached to the machine ... I'd rather have a tamper I can hold, but anyway, you can just buy a hand-held tamper if you're so inclined * You have to warm your little espresso cup before filling it (but I think this is an aspect of all machines) * The case is made of plastic, not metal Overall, this machine is fantastic. Advice for the first-time espresso machine user: * Buy finely-ground coffee, it'll work best for espresso. Often this may be called "Espresso Grind." ... . * You'll need to buy accessories, like espresso shot glasses and a milk frothing pitcher (if you want frothed milk atop your drinks). Also, you might need a thermometer to take the temperature of the milk as it froths. You might want to buy a little jar to knock out the espresso grinds when you're done (obviously, you don't need to get this if you're only going to be using espresso pods). Excellent machine, honestly. Definetely worth it, for its high quality and astoundingly low price.
