Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of DeLonghi DE400P Energy-Star 40-Pint Dehumidifier with Pump

Customer Review: Worked great for 3 months. Pump died
Summary: 1 Stars

After trying to find online instructions to see what I'm doing wrong with this dehumidifier, it appears the pump is broken (after reading these reviews). I bought mine from costco and will return it tonight. This might work great if you don't ever need to turn it on! Should have known by where it was made.

Customer Review: Dehumidifier does
Summary: 5 Stars

This DeLonghi dehumidifier comes with a built-in pump so you do not have to empty the collected water. It was easy to set up and started decreasing the humidity in my basement immediately. Within a day or two it dropped the humidity from over 70 percent down to the target I set of 50 percent. I have been using it about two months. It runs automatically maintaining the target humidity I set. I am happy with it and would buy the same model again.

Customer Review: High Hopes But No Luck
Summary: 1 Stars

I really liked the idea of the automatic water pump so much that I disregarded the negative reviews. Well after 2 failed units (the first one arrived DOA and the second died 2 weeks later) I can say DeLonghi has a real turkey on its hands and I for one will not be sitting down at their table for thirds.

However, I must say that Amazon handled the return process beautifully, so thank you Amazon for making this rather unpleasant experience some what pleasant.

Customer Review: NO BUCKET TO EMPTY w/ BUILT-IN PUMP!
Summary: 5 Stars

Easy to setup and program (I had no need to use timer so I can not comment on that). Pump with long clear plastic hose (only about 1/4 inch in diameter) is not very conspicuous and works great. I have the hose going up about three feet out a window and it works perfectly. If you do not have a drain nearby the pump and hose feature is much better than having to empty a bucket every day or two (it is long enough to reach a window easily and narrow enough to drill an inconspicuous hole to the outside). I really like the digital readout and ability to set the humidly level (i.e. 40%, 45%, 50%, 55%, etc). Only thing I would change is the fact that they mounted the hose for the pump out the front of the unit (I unscrewed the mounting plate so I could have it slip out the side).

Customer Review: Pump stopped after four months
Summary: 2 Stars

I purchased this dehumidifier from Costco for about $200. It worked well except after heavy rains when it just couldn't keep up with the excess humidity. However, after about four months the pump stopped working. Heavy duty pump my . . . ahem. Anyway, thanks to Costco's return policy I got my money back but I would stay away from this product if you have any intention of using the pump feature.
